Strange happenings...

*Edit Monday 11th March 2013. I decided to use this post to link up with Jaime at Oliver's Madhouse and get Magic Moments, because I love the idea of sharing this sort of thing.  Recognising the positive. But not all Magic Moments are massive revelations right? Sometimes there's magic in the tiny things too. Anyway, I'm happy to be joining in*

---------

This isn't really meant to be a proper post. Today was such a busy day I haven't had chance to sit still really. I just wanted to share a few things.

When I got home from work this evening both my girls were in their pyjamas. For the first time I gathered them both around me smelling sweet and delicious from their fruity bubblebath and read them both the same story. Impossible only a short while ago as This Baby's attention span was too short. Tonight she listened. And didn't try to rip or eat the book. And it was lovely. A real reward.

Each week on a Friday I buy That Baby a small gift. This week she asked me if she could have some chalk in all the colours of the rainbow. I found her some and she was so happy, declaring me "the best Mumma ever". I love how such little things please her.

Earlier I got a text from an unknown number letting me know that this was their new phone number. I didn't recognise the name of the sender. It took me an age to realise that this was a message from my Sister in Law using her grown up name. I love the fact that I get to call her by her childhood name as though I'd known her all her life. It makes me feel like a real part of my husband's family.

That Baby had colouring pen all over her fingers this evening. I asked her if she'd been colouring at school. "No Mumma" she said "I've been making you a Mother's Day card, but it's a secret and Daddy says I mustn't tell you". So innocent!

Speaking of Mother's Day, I don't really want gifts from my darlings, a card and a cuddle is lovely (any excuse) but plenty. Every year my Mum buys something small, gives it to Mr Husband and tells him to give it to me "from him and the children". I am not supposed to know about this either. But I do, and I think it's lovely.

It was Bring Your Mummy to School day this week at That Baby's school. Loved spending the morning with her on her turf. Pottering around with playdough and jigsaw puzzles and interacting with her friends was lovely. And I didn't embarrass her! Except for the bit where I accidentally banged my bottom on a table corner and it hurt A LOT. Apparently her friends thought that was very funny though. Winner!

That's everything! Right, to bed. Goodnight all xx

  1. Sweet to read your matronly musings (and I mean matronly in the very best sense of the word...). There is nothing like little darlings after a bath, or kidlets who are pleased with your gifts. Some of the best things in life...Lynaea @ EverydayBloom.com

  4. Reading a book and having snuggles with both children at the same time is the best! My two aren't really enjoying the same books anymore so it doesn't happen often - but I love it when it does! X

    1. I'm not sure it'll happen here again for ages, it felt like a bit of fluke, just tired enough to sit still and listen, but not tired enough to be whingey. You've got to love it when that happens!

  8. Kate this is such a lovely post! I am loving the bring your mum to school day! thats a fantastic idea! I have always wanted to go into school to see what Beth did each day.

I also love the fact your little one sat and listened to a whole story with her sister. Joshua is still annoyingly too little for this at the moment and I cant wait for the say we sit and do stories while he listens!

    1. Thank you Jaime, it's a pleasure to be joining in :) it was fascinating seeing the little ones in their school environment, telling us the rules and how to do things! Usually the closest I get is peeking through the windows at home time!

  10. Hehe I love it when children spill the beans on a secret, it is so innocent. I like the idea of a bring your mum to school day. Even better I'd quite like to be a fly on the wall at school without him knowing I'm there, be nice to see what they get up to. Lovely magic moment x

    1. Hi Karen, thank you so much for following and for your kind comment! Being a fly on the wall would be great wouldn't it? I'd love to see what they got up to when they thought no one was watching. People often tell me my little girl is very polite, which is nice. I like thinking that she remembers to say please and thank you when I'm not there.

  12. How very lovely and you are right, just cuddles and hugs are worth as much as any bought gift. Our biggest baby climbed into be beside me on Mothers Day, cuddled in and just suddenly said I love you so, so much mummy. I actually cried in the bathroom at the loveliness of it lol.
Hope you don't have a bruised bum after the table incident, I've done that to my thigh and boy it hurts.

Not sure how bruised my derrière was, I daren't look at it in the mirror these days, but it did FEEL quite bruised! Quite proud that I didn't swear :)

  13. Awh, I love your approach to this, I think if we all look REALLY hard and ignore the stressful stuff for a bit, all our lives would be bursting full with these tiny but significant, special moments. Your children sound like absolute darlings :) Utterly lovely post xx
