Five Among Friends - My Five!!

I've been a little absent, for which I apologise, but I've been enjoying having both my girls at home with me and we've been having lots of fun together. Blog posts have taken a bit of a back seat as life sometimes gets in the way, no? Anyhoo! It's Five Among Friends time and THIS week it's MY turn to pose the questions! Have a butchers round the other ladies site for their responses, but here are mine!!

1. If you were going to start you own company, what would it be?
I would LOVE to run a sandwich shop, selling lovely lunches and beautiful little cakes. It's always been a fuzzy eyed little dream of mine :) Eating whatever sandwich I wanted at any time of the day or night, baking amazing cakes that make people oooooh and ahhhhh.....sigh......

2. Who is the craziest person in your life?
My dear old friend Noir. He is wonderful, and I love him dearly, but I think he'd agree that he's utterly bonkers. I admire him though, he's gone his own way and he hasn't always found that easy. Like all of us, he's made duff decisions in the past, but his heart is in the right place. He deserves to find happiness through all the crazy.

3. What would the title of your autobiography be? Explain why....?
This is one of those pub conversation questions I used to use to try and glean something about people. My response, and my title would be "What was Plan B Again?" A jovial nod to the fact that I can be a bit useless at times, but I get there in the end.

4. What do you lie about?
If I could get away with lying about my age, I would. I also (frequently) ahem, "tailor" the price of things when chatting to my dear Mama. Things tend to be far more of a bargain when I'm talking to her, it's just easier that way....

5. What are you obsessed with right now?
Probably a few things! I'm obsessed with writing my holiday list for when we go away next week. I'm obsessed with watching my little girl practice walking. I'm obsessed with M&S smokey BBQ crisps and I'm a little bit obsessed with avocados!

Thank you for reading! Now head off to check out my partners in crime!

Five Among Friends - Round Seven

Good Morning! Good Morning my lovelies! It's time for this week's round of Five Among Friends!

1)  If you could be famous for ONE thing, what would it be?
Being really flippin amazing at crochet! I am not. This is seriously wishful thinking! But if I was famous for it I'd be pretty chuffed, at least I'd feel a sense of achievement!

This week's crochet effort!

2)  If you had a super-power, what would it be?  Why?
I'd be able to close my eyes and track my children and know if they were safe or if they needed me. If they did need me I'd be able to whizz around really fast Wonder Woman style to be with them in a heartbeat to help them out.

3)  When did you realise you wanted to be a blogger?
Around 8am on 2nd January 2013. No forethought prior to that was involved!

4)  UPS or FedEx?  Which is better?
Ha! Royal Mail!!! I don't think I've ever used either UPS or Fed Ex! Britain's mail service is pretty impressive most of the time...

5)  What's your favorite flavor of ice cream?
Easy, easy, easy! Mint Choc Chip, every time!!!! And plenty of it :)

Five Among Friends - Round Six

Hello to you!!

I've caught up and am on schedule with this week's Five Among Friends post. This week's questions are courtesy of the lovely Jules at My Mom's a Whack Job and I've really enjoyed answering them...

1. Put your iTunes on Shuffle, what are the first five songs that come up?
From The Lowlands - Tom McRae
Nirvana - Polly
Pixies - Tame
Maxïmo Park - By The Monument
Eels - Love of the Loveless

2. Who was the last person you held hands with?
My daughter Biscuit. I make her hold my hand as we walk to school, there are fast roads and speedy cars.

3. Name two personality traits of yours that you love and explain why....
I'm very loyal to my friends and to those I care about. I may be useless at sticking up for myself, but slight a friend or someone I love and you'll know about it!!

I also like to think I've got a good sense of humour! I can usually diffuse a situation with done carefully chosen words, or make someone smile.

4. Who is your best friend?  How long have you been friends?  Where did you meet?
My very best friend in this world is called Tallulah. Biscuit and I were recently bridesmaids at her wedding. We met somewhere around 1996 when she was studying music on the same course as my (then) boyfriend. We were in touch, then out of touch, then met again and haven't been too far apart ever since. I love that girl like a sister. Even though we're both going straight to hell!! Tallulah if you're reading this, two words: Ability World!!!

5. If you could do one random, crazy thing, with no fear of doing it or any lasting effects, what would it be?
Gosh, there's a question!! You know that feeling you get when you stand on the top of a waterfall, or a cliff and think to yourself, I could jump off, I could....well I'd jump! Just for the hell of it! If only to get they creepy feeling out my system.

Five Among Friends 4 & 5

I'm a little behind with Five Among Friends posts so I'm posting both sets of questions together to catch up, hope you can bear to read it all!. Here goes:

1. What is your favourite holiday and why?
I'm assuming this means holiday in the American sense, rather than the English sense so I'm going to say Christmas. I lost my love for it, but since having children I treasure every second of it. It's such a special time. I love the decorations, the food, the social occasions and I love watching my girls have fun.

2. Do you have a special or favorite cartoon or cartoon character?
For me Cruella DeVille ROCKS!! She may be mean, but at least she's got character, not like some watery wafty princess. She knows what she wants and she sets out to get it.

3. What was your reaction on your first born's first day at school?
If I'm really honest I was ok with it, I've never really had a problem with her growing up, nor have I wanted to keep her a baby. She loved school, I was happy that she was happy.

4. What’s your preference: Swimming pool or beach, and why?
Neither! I'd rather get out there and do something or see something than park my bum on a beach or buy a pool. I'd rather stroll through the mountains or weave through the markets and have an experience.

5. How do you schedule your blog post and do you use any type of system?
I like to keep my weekends quiet and share those times with my family, so weekends on the blog are all about photographs. The 52 Project with a picture of my gorgeous girls on Saturday and a Silent Sunday picture the day after.

6. If you could switch blogs with another blogger, who would it be and why?
I'd switch with the lovely Emma Kate from Painted Style. I wish I had her talent for restoration, she makes some beautiful things. I'd love to be half as clever as she is!

7. What is/are your favorite bloghop(s)?
My particular favourites are Magic Moments by The Oliver's Madhouse and Currently hosted by Ot and Et. I try to join in whenever I can.

8. What is the best thing that blogging has taught you?
That people can be truly amazing. Blogging connects me with brilliant and inspirational people I wouldn't otherwise know existed!

9. If you could turn back time, what would you change about your life?
Nothing. If my life hadn't played out exactly the way it has I wouldn't be lucky enough to be where I am today. I've had hard times, but they've moulded me as person and taught me lessons. I am incredibly grateful for the blessings I have.

10. Recommend 5 wonderful movies worth watching. Why do you love these movies?
I am a funny one when it comes to films, I'm not really in to Hollywood or blockbusters, I don't like anything too ordinary. I would recommend:

Requiem for a Dream, Basquiat, 10 Rillington Place, Don't Look Now and Withnail & I.

Check out the others ladies blogs for their (far more up to date) responses!

Five Among Friends - Round Three

It's time for round three of the Five Among Friends series, I'm discovering some great new blogs because of this.  This week's questions were posed by the lovely Dawn of Dawn's Disaster.

1.  Who is the person that made you do the dumbest thing? What was it?
Gosh I find this a really hard question to answer, I don't feel like anyone has ever MADE me do something stupid.  Of course I've done stupid things in my life, but I don't feel like I can blame anyone else for those things, just myself.  My old school friend Jen and I used to get up to some tricks, we were very young and silly, I can remember we once decided to go out to the cinema during a thunderstorm and we ended up getting accidentally stuck in her car where the river overflowed onto the road.  It was pretty scary and pretty stupid to have driven straight into it.  We were rescued by a very kind lady who pushed us nose to bumper up the hill with her car!

2.  What was the FIRST job you ever had?
My very first ever job was working for a local florist. I had to unpack big boxes of carnations that had been flown over from Holland, separate them into bunches of five, chop them to a uniform length with flippin great cleaver on a chopping board over a bin, then put them into a plastic sleeve and into a new box.  There was no such thing as Health and Safety in those days. You should have seen that cleaver and that wobbly old bin!

3. When do you relax and how do you do it?
If we've got an evening at home, Mr Husband and I like to snuggle up on the sofa and watch something on TV or that we've recorded.  We love anything dramatic, a crime drama, Game of Thrones, anything along those lines.  We have to get all the toys and baby stuff our of our living room so I feel like it's a grown up space, then we can kick back and relax together.

4. Where was your most memorable date? Who was it with?
My first ever date with Mr Husband was a pretty memorable one.  He was so polite!  We went to a pub for a drink together and talked and got on really well.  The only problem was by the end of the evening I had no idea if he actually liked me, or if he just thought I was reasonably ok.  I had to pretty much order him to kiss me, he said he didn't want to be too forward, ahhhh!

5. Why do you blog?
So many reasons, but I suppose the main one is to record and capture our lives and the little things as they happen.

Five Among Friends - Round Two

This was going to be a one off, but these delightful bloggers are too great to just swish by the once so we've decided to turn this into a running thing. Each week one of our gang will pose questions and then we'll all answer them. Like a virtual dinner party if you will!! Where we all have blogging I'm common! This week Jay at Crafty Spices is kicking us off with these questions:

1.  What is your favourite thing about blogging?
The people. Hands down. I've "met" some great people through blogging that I would never have known about. My world got bigger and I got blessed with lovely bloggy chums :)

2.  What do you dislike about blogging
I'm pretty new to it all really, so right now I can't think of much I dislike. We're still in our honeymoon phase!

3.  What is you favorite thing to do with your little ones?
I love to go on walks with them, just the four of us, no one else for miles! We play silly games as we walk along like "Where's Wiggles' sock?" and we always    laugh and chat and just enjoy being together.

4.  If you could move anywhere in the world (and if money was no object) where would it be, and why?
I wouldn't move anywhere as I love our little village, but I would buy holiday homes in The Lake District, Austria, Paris and Barcelona, to name but a few!! I'd love to be able to pick everyone up and take them away somewhere beautiful on a whim. I chose these place because they all hold happy memories for me and it'd be lovely to create some happy memories for my girls there too.

5. What is the most embarrassing thing one of your kids has done in public?
I think I've been really lucky with Biscuit, she's such a good, sweet and sensitive girl. She's never really done anything THAT awful to me. I suspect Wiggles will be a whole different kettle of fish! I can remember being mortified once when Biscuit had the biggest shouty tantrum at a picnic will loads of other Mummies. She was tired and hungry and refused to listen to reason. I whipped her off home and sent her to her bedroom. I think it did the trick because we've never had a repeat performance. I was so ashamed of her though, everyone was looking and she was yelling and screaming, ugh! Even the memory makes me shudder.

So those are mine, check out the Five Among Friends Crew for their responses to this week's questions!

Five Among Friends - Round One

One of my favourite bloggers EVER is Taby at The Closet Intellectual. She came up with a lovely getting to know you idea which we're calling Five Among Friends. We're answering five little questions so you can find out a little more about us. I seriously love the fact Taby got her husband Jeremy to answer, so cute! I'm going to try and lure in Mr Husband in the future....

So here's what I had to say:

1.  What is the most embarrassing song on your iPod/mp3 player?
I actually don't think my ipod is all that uncool. Although, maybe it is, but I just don't realise it! I think maybe it's this:

I'm not sure I'd want it blasting out at a party!

2.  When was the last time you laughed so hard you cried?
At work the other day our Friday afternoon was going a little slowly so to make it a little more fun we decided to come up with a list of curry based song puns. It started out with "Tikka Chance on Me" and progressed onwards to such delights as "Don't Korai for me Argentina" "You Can't Curry Love" and many others, before we finally peaked with "Tears on my Pilau". It got silly, but by the end I was quite literally crying with laughter.

3.  What is your perfect Sunday afternoon?
A walk with my husband and my girls in the sunshine, home for a lovely lunch together, a spot of baking followed by cake eating, then a lovely evening cuddled up on the sofa watching a detective drama with some nibbly snacks. That would be my idea of perfection.

4.  You just won the bazillion dollar jackpot!  What's the first thing you run out to buy?
The first thing? Hmmmm....that's a toughie! I am a hoover pig, so the FIRST thing I'd probably buy would be a celebratory cake.  Then I'd buy a shed load of totally unnecessary stuff to cheer up the days of the people I love.

5.  What is the craziest thing on your bucket list?
I am a dull creature! Until a couple of years ago I wanted to go Zorbing, but then lovely Mr Husband paid for me to have a go as a treat. It ended like this, but it was amazing!! I still have a whole lot of stuff on my bucket list, but it's not all that crazy! I'd like to see every one of Shakespeare's plays, I'd LOVE to zip about on a Segway and have singing lessons and dye my hair pink again....

So those were my answers!  Check out the other lovelies on the list above who are joining in if you'd like to read theirs!

Have a grand old day!
